History

The JKA-PTKF`s first introduce to the Japan based UNIVERSAL SHOTOKAN KARATE UNION came by way of an invitation from Michael Clay, the Vice President of the Karate Union of Australia who wrote a letter to Ernesto Pinas in July 20, 2007 inviting participation to a friendship exchange program.

Michael Clay came to know about JKA-PTKF from Sydney based black belt Benedict Comafay, a native of Bontoc working in Australia . The JKA-PTKF was not able to honor the invitation but a series of letters of ensued, culminating finally in a visit to the Philippines by USKU founder 7th dan Kenichi Fukamizu in November, 2007 who was welcomed in Manila by Ernesto Pinas and Danilo Maliones. The group went up to Baguio City and La Trinidad where Sensei Fukimazu conducted training-seminar each at the Epiphany and at Easter College .

In this visit, he appointed Danilo Maliones, Ernesto Pinas, Greg Walcien,jr. and Alfonso Fagcayang as Permanent Committee members for the Philippines, with Danilo Maliones as country representative. He promoted Danilo Maliones to 4th dan and the three others to 3rd dan.

On October 18, 2008, Sensei Kenichi Fukimazu again came to the Philippines to conduct a seminar on Karate at the Benguet provincial capitol, along with 6th dan sensei Masakazu Taoka. The seminar focused on Kihon, Kata and Kumite rules.

The year 2009 marked a threshold for USKU PHILIPPINES as it held the honor of hosting the first USKU international conference in La Trinidad , Benguet and at the Asin Hotspring in Tuba , Benguet on February 28 to March 2 , 2009.
